I didn't know much about this ring when I listed it. A collector of Oran memorabilia wrote to me with the following: This is a campaign ring which was made to be sold by local vendors to American Soldiers in 1943-1944. Oran was liberated in late 1942 during operation torch. The figure head is cut from a Mercury dime and silver soldered onto the ring. The ring was cast from empty brass shell casings and chrome plated. Each ring was hand made by melting the brass and pouring it into sand molds. One side of the ring is marked Africa and the other side is marked Oran. This ring fits a size 7 1/2 finger. The face of the ring measures approx. 5/8" x 3/4". I am happy to answer any questions you may have. Thanks for looking!
